Electrolysis production using grid power is projected to reach cost parity with steam methane reform (SMR) within a 5-year period, leading the Rocky Mountain Institute to recommend that EU and US policy should exclusively focus on electrolysis until carbon capture and storage (CCS) becomes a viable and scalable technology.
