Eurocentric historical narratives of transatlantic slavery tend to underplay the centrality of slavery to economic development, downplay the role of enslaved people in resisting their enslavement, and overemphasize the role of white abolitionists such as the Clapham Saints in Britain or white soldiers of the Union in the USA.
