The CDC-Kaiser Permanente study on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) found a strong dose–response relationship between childhood exposure to abuse, neglect, and dysfunction and multiple risk factors for leading causes of death, including alcoholism, smoking, drug abuse, severe obesity, and physical inactivity.
