The Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) assigns a score to each of its 45 components based on their pro- or anti-inflammatory potential, where positive scores indicate pro-inflammatory potential and negative scores indicate anti-inflammatory potential; the total DII score is the sum of these component scores.
