The 2020 COSPAR policy and requirements for missions to Europa and Enceladus state: "Policy should include a generic definition of the environmental conditions potentially allowing Earth organisms to replicate. Implementation guidelines should be more specific on relevant organisms. Implementation guidelines should be updated to reflect the period of biological exploration of Europa and Enceladus. Implementation guidelines should acknowledge the potential existence of Enhanced Downward Transport Zones at the surface of Europa and Enceladus."
