Future directions for autism intervention research and practice include: (1) partnerships with autistic people, caregivers, and stakeholders on research steering and advisory boards; (2) reflection by researchers and practitioners on how intervention practices align with a neurodiversity framework and the views of autistic people; (3) greater regard within intervention programmes for natural autistic developmental processes, coping strategies, autonomy, and well-being; and (4) increased efforts to develop and validate tools to measure autistic-prioritized outcomes and the goodness-of-fit between an autistic individual and their environment.
