The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) concluded that it is technologically feasible for renewable energy resources to supply 80 percent of total U.S. electricity generation in 2050 while balancing supply and demand at the hourly level, utilizing contributions from all U.S. regions consistent with local renewable resource bases.
