According to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, Generalized Anxiety Disorder is defined by excessive anxiety and worry about a number of events or activities occurring on more days than not for at least 6 months, the person finding it difficult to control the worry, and the presence of at least three of six specific symptoms (restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, muscle tension, or sleep disturbance).
