The DSM-IV-TR defines Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (Code 309.81) as a condition where the person has been exposed to a traumatic event involving actual or threatened death, serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of self or others, and the person's response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror (or in children, disorganized or agitated behavior).
