The study by Mamede et al. (2010) on availability bias involved two phases: in phase one, internal medicine residents rated the likelihood of correct diagnoses for 6 cases; in phase two, residents diagnosed 8 new cases, half of which were similar to the phase one cases to test if availability bias reduced diagnostic accuracy.
