David Chalmers states: “A view like this has the potential to answer the subject combination problem. Anything that is aware of a quality is a subject, so if this approach can show how brains or organisms stand in the awareness relation to qualities, then it will show how brains or organisms can be subjects. On the other hand, the fact that awareness requires subjects might simply suggest that the awareness combination problem is just as hard as the subject combination problem and is subject to the same sort of worries”
