Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, a Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg writer and activist, documented that her people in Ontario experienced the loss of fisheries, forests, wild-rice beds, sugar maples, managed prairies, and burial grounds, which were stolen, clear-cut, subdivided, and sold to European settlers and later to cottagers from Toronto.
