A diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) requires that the person has been exposed to a traumatic event involving actual or threatened death, serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of self or others, and that the person's response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror (or in children, disorganized or agitated behavior).
