In central Argentina, the percentage of C3 grass species increases with altitude, while the percentage of C4 grass species decreases with altitude, according to data from Cabido et al. (1997). At 350 meters, C3 species comprise 2.3% and C4 species comprise 97.7%; at 2,100 meters, C3 species comprise 80.0% and C4 species comprise 20.0%.
