procedure
The process of secure attachment development involves four steps: (1) a caregiver is consistently responsive and sensitive to a child’s needs, fostering trust; (2) the caregiver’s availability acts as a 'safe base' for the child; (3) the caregiver provides attentive monitoring and empathic responsiveness while the child explores; (4) the child returns to the caregiver to replenish emotional balance, which increases the child's confidence and sense of mastery.
