A fabricated bioplastic possesses an in-built oxygen (O2) barrier property, whereas delignified balsa lacks this property due to the porous structure between its cellulose fibers. The bioplastic achieves this barrier through hot-pressing and the addition of natural rubber latex, which creates tight packing among the cellulose fibers.
