During the winter of 2017–2018, New England faced a risk of rolling blackouts because natural gas deliveries, constrained by pipeline capacity, could not meet the demand for residential heating and power generation. ISO New England warned that under similar conditions, the loss of power from the Seabrook nuclear power plant in New Hampshire could trigger major outages.
