An observational, cross-sectional study found that poor global sleep-quality scores on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were significantly related to the presence of metabolic syndrome, as well as to waist circumference, Body Mass Index (BMI), percentage of body fat, serum levels of insulin and glucose, and estimated insulin resistance.
