Global Neuronal Workspace Theory (GNWT) predicts that the Neural Correlates of Consciousness (NCC) involve brief 'ignitions' at the onset of conscious perception, followed by active and sustained maintenance of the accessed representation within the global workspace for as long as the individual remains conscious of the stimulus.
