A cross-sectional study of over 10,000 Finnish college students found that high rates of personal or parental conflicts, such as parental divorce, spousal separation, or severe long-term relationship conflicts, increased the risk of asthma onset (Kilpeläinen, Koskenvuo, Helenius, & Terho, 2002).
