To overcome the barrier of variability in renewable power output, the authors suggest solutions including better prediction of variability, strategies for reducing it, changes in the operation of power plants, reserves, transmission systems, and storage, improved planning of renewable capacity expansion, and implementation of new regulatory paradigms, rate structures, and standards.
