Ayres (2020) describes homeostatic control mechanisms in cybernetic terms: "These mechanisms participate in a dynamic equilibrium, requiring sensing of a continuously changing internal variable, and integration of this information into a control center that provides output information to mediate an effector response that responds appropriately to these changes to stay within the setpoint for a particular variable."
