Maintaining existing nuclear reactors and extending their operational life up to 80 years prevents short- and medium-term increases in emissions while allowing time to deploy renewables, energy efficiency, energy storage, advanced nuclear, and fossil fuel-fired electricity with carbon capture and storage.
