In a direct comparison of a panel of inflammatory markers (including serum amyloid A, IL-6, and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule type 1 [sICAM-1]) and various lipid markers, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) surpassed all of them as a predictor of cardiovascular events.
