Using the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant as a power source for desalination could substantially augment fresh water supplies in California and relieve water withdrawal from critically overdrafted basins such as the Central Valley, producing freshwater volumes equal to or exceeding those of the proposed Delta Conveyance Project at a significantly lower investment cost.
