Extensive exercise overwhelms the vestibular system, resulting in habituation and a shutdown of the temporo-parietal junction (TPJ) and sensory system, which leads to a loss of functional connectivity with motor and somatic functions and a dis-engagement of the self-image and awareness from the visual field and body, allowing for the experience of movement independent of the physical body.
