To help a child develop a secure attachment, caregivers should follow this procedure: (1) be present when the child needs them, (2) allow the child to explore their environment when ready, (3) be sensitive and in tune with the child's needs and emotions, (4) label and discuss feelings, (5) stay with the child when they are upset, (6) enjoy the child through play and shared activities, (7) follow the child's lead, (8) take charge when necessary, (9) be consistent, predictable, and stable, and (10) set limits.
