In the Nurses Health Study, participants who slept five hours or less per night had a 45 percent increased risk of nonfatal and fatal heart attack (odds ratio [OR] = 1.45, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.10–1.92) ten years after the 1996 baseline, after adjusting for age, BMI, smoking, and snoring.
