In Greek mythology, the pregnant Semele, daughter of the King of Thebes, requested to see her lover Zeus in his divine form, which resulted in her death by fire; Zeus subsequently removed the fetus from her womb and incubated it in his thigh, resulting in the birth of Dionysus.
