A team of European scientists conducted an experiment where they placed samples of Buttiauxella and Salinisphaera shabanensis into an artificial environment simulating Mars by drying out the microbes and decreasing oxygen levels. After three months, a sizable fraction of both extremophilic microbe samples survived.
