Lacoste et al. developed semi-rigid fiber composites using alginate-based binders, which exhibit a flexural strength of 0.2–0.54 MPa, a compressive strength of 0.4–1.41 MPa, and a thermal conductivity of 0.08 W m−1 K−1, making them suitable for thermal insulation in green buildings.
