The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) for an advanced carbon-emitting gas plant entering service in 2022 is more than 70 percent lower per megawatt hour (MWh) than that for a pollution-free solar photovoltaic (PV) plant.
