A Bank of America (2023) study reported that 28 percent of survey respondents had an affluent upbringing and received an inheritance, 46 percent reported an affluent upbringing with no inheritance or a middle-class upbringing with a modest inheritance, and 27 percent reported a middle-class or poor upbringing with no inheritance.
