procedure
When body temperature drops, the hypothalamus initiates the following physiological responses: (1) vasoconstriction of surface blood vessels to decrease heat flow to the skin, (2) shivering to increase heat production by muscles, and (3) secretion of stimulatory hormones like norepinephrine and epinephrine by the adrenal glands to increase metabolic rates. These responses continue until the body temperature returns to normal.
