measurement
A randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 617 nursing home residents aged 65 and older found that daily supplementation with 200 IU of synthetic alpha-tocopherol (90 mg of RRR-alpha-tocopherol) for one year significantly lowered the risk of contracting upper respiratory tract infections, such as the common cold, but had no effect on lower respiratory tract (lung) infections.
