The 2021 update to the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) planetary protection policy for the Moon was informed by the 2020 report 'Planetary Protection for the Study of Lunar Volatiles' by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and the Space Studies Board (SSB) Committee on Planetary Protection (CoPP), as well as a joint NASA/LEAG-COSPAR community survey.
